Marine biodiversity is the indispensible part of global biodiversity. Although China is abundant with marine biological resources, its biodiversity is seriously threatened. Recently, the number of endangered marine species on record has reached 556. The status quo and characteristics of the endangered marine species in China were summarized, the cause why marine organisms decrease or are even endangered was analyzed, and the protection measures of marine endangered species and marine diversity were expounded in China. A series of protection measures and suggestions was then put forward for marine biodiversity conservation and sustainable development of the marine environment.

Plant species are being extincted at rapid speed. Biodiversity conservation is facing tremendous challenges in our Earth. China, one of the richest countries in biodiversity, is facing the hard facts that a large number of plants are being endangered. So it is very important to strengthen the conversation of these plant resources and maintain their diversity. In this paper, we summarized scientifically the concept and class definition, status and the characteristics of these endangered plant resources in China. We also analyzed the factors leading to plants endangered and discussed the conservation strategies of endangered plants.

Yunnan province, which only accounts for 4.1% of Chinese territory area, however, is the most biodiverse province in China. It harbors 19 333 higher plant species, which is more than half of higher plants in China, including 1 906 species of mosses belonging to 499 genera in 126 families, 1 363 species of fern belonging to 193 genera in 61 families, 113 species of gymnosperms belonging to 25 genera in 9 families, and 15 951 species of angiosperms belonging to 2 367 genera in 244 families. In addition to higher plants, there are 1 067 species of lichen belonging to 203 genera in 66 families, and 2 729 species of macro fungi belonging to 599 genera in 124 families distributed in Yunnan. Considering to vegetation diversity, Yunnan is identified with 14 vegetation types, 38 vegetation subtypes, and 474 forms, ranging from tropical rainforests to shrubs in alpine screes. Such high plant diversity of Yunnan attributes to the rich Earth environmental diversity, the varied climate types, and its special geolocation. In recent years, a series of conservation actions has been carried out in Yunnan, such as counting the floral inventory, compiling conservation lists, establishing germplasm resource banks, and saving and protecting plant species with extremely small populations. Thanks to that, the plant diversity of Yunnan has been effectively protected

Due to the impact of climate change and human activities, China’s biodiversity is under serious threat, which requires urgent conservation actions. According to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the “3030 Target” calls for at least 30% of the world’s land and oceans to be protected by 2030. Although the current protected areas in China have covered ca. 18% of its land area, large conservation gaps remain to achieve the 30% target. It is therefore urgent to identify more conservation priorities. Researchers identified southwest China as the diversity hotspot of flowering plants based on numerous diversity indices, such as those incorporating richness, endemism, vulnerability, and evolutionary history. Furthermore, unique conservation gaps is identified using the categorical analysis of neo- and paleo-endemism (CANAPE), integrative richness-based index (Irich), and integrative phylogenybased index (Iphyl). These progresses provide solid scientific support for improving China’s nature reserve system.
