Data play an essential, important and fundamental role in the development of mechanics. The classical mechanics, represented by the three famous Newton’s laws, is developed by summarizing and analyzing vast data from the observations of natural behaviors, especially, from the observations of star movement. It is nowadays the information era and data grow explosively owing to the developments of high-throughput computation, high-throughput experiment and experimental automatization. Scientists in mechanics are facing great challenge: how to utilize the explosive growth of data to further develop mechanics, or how to gain
mechanics knowledge from big data. In this article, we propose to develop “mechanoinformatics” by employing techniques, tools, and theories drawn from the emerging fields of data science, internet, computer science and engineering, digital technologies, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI) to the field of mechanics to accelerate the development of mechanics. In “mechanoinformatics”, we emphasize the construction of mechanics databases and the combination of “human being learning” and “machine learning”. As examples, we sketchily elucidate symbolic regression, sparse regression and manifold learning methods, through which equations, theory and knowledge are achieved from data. Developing “mechanoinformatics” will definitely bring further prosperities to mechanics.

Hydrogen embrittlement is the consequence of strong interaction between hydrogen and metals and the cause of fracture failure of metal components. The mechanism of hydrogen embrittlement is reviewed and the harmful effect of hydrogen on metal is elaborated. The effect of hydrogen on the microstructure of metal is also introduced, thus refining the microstructure, purifying the melt, plasticizing and non-crystallizing. The proper use of hydrogen can prepare materials with better and special properties, improve processing conditions and simplify process. Meanwhile, the adsorption, diffusion and precipitation of hydrogen in metal and metal films can also help the purification of low purity hydrogen.

Whether artificial intelligence should be “brain-inspired” and how to imitate a brain are controversial issues in the development of artificial intelligence. According to the years of research experience in the fields of bionic vision and artificial intelligence, the author expounded the significance and methods of brain-inspired intelligence research, discussed the similarities and differences between artificial intelligence and brain-inspired intelligence at this stage, and presented some individual viewpoints on the future of artificial intelligence. Based on the above views on brain-inspired intelligence, the author and his team will develop a “cyber-brain” that combines intelligence, perception and manipulation to explore the development of machine autonomous intelligence.

This work introduces the application status and prospect of artificial intelligence in disease prediction comprising two aspects: public health prevention and control, personal disease screening and health management. The drawbacks of traditional methods for disease prevention and control are analyzed. The breakthroughs and developments of disease prediction brought by artificial intelligence are summarized in view of data sources and techniques. Finally, this work gives some examples of the productions of disease prediction by artificial intelligence.

Spatial analysis is a method of quantitative analysis of spatial phenomena, which becomes the core competitiveness of supporting the development of GIS. Especially with the rapid development of smart phones, mobile payment systems and shared bicycles, spatial analysis has been brought to a new stage of artificial intelligence in just a few years. In order to draw a blueprint for the coming artificial intelligence spatial analysis (AISA), this paper first briefly combs the key nodes of the development of spatial analysis: the computerized work mode from 0 to 1, global visual calculation, hidden LBS and intelligent applications, cloud GIS and
artificial intelligence spatial-temporal decision-making. Secondly, the five schools of machine learning, the evolution characteristics of dominant algorithms and spatial analysis are summarized. Thirdly, the definition, modeling principles and technical framework of AISA are proposed. Finally, several hot area of AISA in the future are proposed, such as intelligent spatial computing, hyperparametric spatial optimization, intelligent spatial planning robot, full-sample spatial-temporal prediction and spatial neural network analysis. By combing, analyzing, summarizing and predicting the history and trend of artificial inerlligence spatial analysis, this paper aims to provide systematic theoretical and applied data for artificial intelligence spatial analysis.
