文章概述了1967年诺贝尔奖得主哈特兰的成长过程及其主要学术成就:发现视觉神经细胞的单纤维活动、青蛙视网膜神经节细胞的感受野、神经系统中的侧抑制作用从而解开了心理学上的马赫带之谜等,也介绍了他对科学无比热爱,充满好奇心,以及与时俱进等优秀品质。

Abstract

This paper summarizes the growing up of 1967 Nobel Prize winner Hartline and his main achievements: discovering the single fiber activity of visual nerve cells, the receptive field of frog retinal ganglion cells, the lateral inhibition in nervous systems, and thus shedding light on the mystery of Mach band phenomenon in psychology. It also introduces his excellent qualities: great love for
science, curiosity and keeping pace with the times.
