The main characteristics and mechanism of Wenchuan earthquake and its aftershocks were briefly introduced; the problems of earthquake prediction are discussed. The author considered that the intermediate and long term predictions are believable, according to the data of history earthquakes, and it is difficult to make sure the short term prediction. Based on the earthquake periodicity of China continent during last hundred years, the distribution of strong earthquakes is discussed during tens years later. Depending on the history earthquake data in last thousand years, the author discuss the strong earthquake, such as Tangshan earthquake in 1976, will occur at North China area after 240 years and before 300 years.

Leukemia represents a group of diseases of hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells with dynamic changed such as chromosomal translocations and/or gene mutations. Recently, evidences suggest that acute myeloid leukemia follow a "Multi-hit"model in leukemogenesis. Acquisition of GATA-2 mutations other than BCR/ABL fusion gene may cause disease progression from chronic myeloid leukemia to acute transformation. AML1-ETO represents the first, fundamental genetic hit to initiate the disease, wheresa C-KIT mutation may be a second hit for the development of acute myeloid leukemia M2 with t(8;21).TEL-AML1 functions as a first genetic event, the additional loss of the normal TEL allele may cause full-brown leukemia which mainly occurs in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The new progress of leukemias in pathpgenesis and targeted therapy are summarized.

It focused on the results of radon indoor, in subsurface constructions and in spring water worldwide. It suggested research the geological sources of radon in the environment and how to control radon level indoor. The approaches to control radon indoor and significance of protection human health were presented

It aims unchangeably at popularizing the knowledge in natural science and improving people’s scientific accomplishment. Only the specialists in associated scientific fields were invited to write the scientific articles, which were requested using popular language and illuminated with figures to explain the profound things in a simple way. Some articles written by the famous scientists were chronological listed in this paper.

Placenticeras is widely distributed in the world during the late Cretaceous. Only are those forms such as Placenticeras meeki and Placenticeras intercalare, yielded in the Bearpaw Shale Formation from west Canada and in the Pierre Shale Formation from the United States, preserved as a gemstone, so-called Ammolite. Ammolite is characterized with excellent colors, it is also a kind of expensive gemstone, peculiar to the regions of the western Interior Sea of north America during the Cretaceous. It might be most likely related to the habits, taphonomic and diagenesis processes of Placenticeras meeki, which may be referred to soft bottom with high sedimentary rate, most of adult macroconch, well-preserved primitive micro-texture of aragonite, and its skeletal mineralogy solution and interaction peculiar to a shallow and periodic brackish-water environment.

Being one of the oil-producing countries, China has a brilliant future for its petroleum industry. However, China is still lack of petroleum resources in terms of average state land and resources. The petroleum production in the country had entered a plateau phase since the year of 1980. The strategy adopted as stabilizing the east oil and gas blocks and developing the northwest and offshore areas had supported a relatively stable production of petroleum. In recent years, petroleum import has helped meeting the energy demand of the country, also rendering a rapid growth in economy(GDP) and export trade volume. It is estimated that by the year of 2020, China will need 480 million tons of petroleum, among which 290 million tons have to be rely on imports. It seems that China has to use petroleum from both domestic and foreign sources to meet its energy demand. Therefore, implementation of strategies of putting energy-saving as priority, enriching energy mix, and developing recyclable alternative energy, is crucial to petroleum industry development in China.
